bible, bird, faith,
one day the flightless peacock
got a message from above
and when it filled his heart
he gave the message to a dove
when he received it he knew it was true
this was something special
and to all the world it should be flew
the dove gave it to a crane
and the crane gave it to a duck
which went south for the winter
where the message was also brought
but then the dragon got word
and he didn't like it at all
he flew around the world
saying the message was false
but all the birds knew it
and the woodpecker too
the message of God's love
is very, very true
(This goes with a presentation of origami birds and a dragon that can flap their wings.)

Such felicity to tip toe
On thin ridge
Delivering a premise
Such strain in the chest
To pour over a love-chest
Heart sluggish or fast or missing
A beat , the ancient treadmill
A woodpecker bores
Deep into a collage
An origami of conversations
Which way you look
The only way back in the day,
Of senescence,
Metamorphosed since
For a racy glide painless
For plain or phantom rides.

bird, snow,
Filled the feeder in the snow
Because, of all the weathers,
This one makes the search for food
Quite tough for those with feathers.
Had to chase some squirrels -
Let them eat the nuts they’ve hoarded -
But then the birds began to come
And wow, was I rewarded!
Chickadees and sparrows,
Blue jays and a mourning dove,
Then a Woody Woodpecker,
A species that I love.
Flocks of little black birds
That prefer to peck the ground,
Crows above on branches
Where good resting spots are found.
Set against the blanket
Of the freshly fallen snow,
I’m happy as I watch the birds
Who know just where to go.

art,
Sitting on the hill,
nestled against the moon,
talking to stars.
You love a woodpecker.
What a stupid thing.
A panther dies of thirst.
A tall fern unfurls
the frond, to catch
a crested iguana.
In deep blue water
seventeen summers
drowned, in one go.
A sapsucker goes
on, making holes,
in my psyche.
A tree will wait
for the summer to end.
Then it will tow the rain.

bird, character, word play,
A woodpecker, flew straight at him,
Its sharp beak, stuck in his head
Then it flew back up to its nest
As for him, "He'll live!", the doc said!
But his life sure was not easy
To see a bird, was his worst dread
Rarely did he venture outside
He became known as, "Pecker head"
He tried to take it in his stride,
Though of course he was appalled
What if it was a Shih Tzu attack?
Imagine what he might be called!
But he found true love with, "Willow"
Though she was quite pushy, it's true
Soon they were seen all over town
Pecker head and pushy Willow too!

faith, life,
The Woodpecker tapping his song
in Morse Code rivetting
A melody to his summer
love, soon change pivotting
The sound carries on air's dampness
Saturated with fog
Moisture coats everything this morn
Frogs sleep in their bog
Birds begin to awake chirping
Surround sound melodies
An angry Mockingbird chatters
Soon some animal will flee
God speaks to me in the morning
His Spirit leads each day
All I have to do is follow Him
As He lights each step's way

love, mother,
I want to return to my mother
To my mother tongue
Like the clouds return to the Ocean
Like the air return to the sky
Like the cows goes to their home
When the sun gets down
As the ants return to their anthills
As the woodpecker return to the wood.
Let me return to my mother land
When my tongue becomes stiff
From being silent for too long
When my soul begins to hurt
Let me return to my mother land
To my mother tongue
Where I feel like heaven
Oo! My mother let me return to you.
