I'D Give You

You've stood by me through everything,
And that really means a lot.
And now it is my turn
To give you all that I've got.

I'd give you a dozen roses,
But what does that really mean?
I'd give you a tractor,
But do you want red or green?

I'd give you a power tool,
But you already have a drill.
I'd give you a million dollars,
But would you leave it in your will?

I'd give you a hat,
But you already have many.
I'd give you a goldfish,
But do you want any?

If I possibly could,
I'd give you all these for a start.
So I'll just give you my love
That comes straight from the heart.

The Day We Met

I recollect the day we met, my dear
When the air was wintry warm and clear.
The garden was a paradise of perfume,
And many flowers were in bloom.

Daylilies and columbines flourished around the pond
And tall sedge grew here and there and beyond.
Littered everywhere were lovely lotus flowers,
Beneath goldfish and calico swam together for hours.

A small wooden bridge took us to a small bench,
So soothing I heard a waterfall drifting down a trench.
We talked and talked and knew love was there.
I promised I will always be true for I really did care.

Would It Be Me

sitting across from my fishbowl
watching my little goldfish
wandering -

wondering
had she an iPhone
who would she first call
would it be me
or some guy named Paul

Thoughts By a Horse Owner

Thoughts by a Horse Owner

A farmer milks a cow for all it’s worth …but
a horse milks a farmer for all he’s worth!

Horses are an expensive proposition to say the least.
Try lavishing your love on another beast.
When you look upon a star and make a wish,
much cheaper to buy a little goldfish.
then if you can’t afford it
when your dream comes true,
just flush it down the loo.
Or if you’re into recycling, eat the little guy…
And for crying out loud,
quit wishing towards the sky!

Answer to Doris Culverhouse’s invite for a silly poem.
There you go Doris! : ) ...(but I mean it!)

Muthoni - From Kenya

We used to wait outside
at the girls rooming house
by the Ohio in Cincinnati

Sex does not self heal
Nor does the salamander
we trapped under the moss

We always said
We'd die together
At daybreak
We knew better

Love does not always
fill the heart
On rainy nights
It kills the heart

The noon at the clinic
shall remain our secret
The long recovery
Bittersweet

We woke this morning
To our failed romance
Your boyfriend from Somalia
He was right

Some women are exotic
Like goldfish
only less slippery
Always out of reach

Voice of Goldfish

When the index finger indicated the sun went to the pet shop
I found a creature that swims elegantly in the water
It was an Aphrodite's goldfish
Love began from there
I placed a goldfish in the aquarium of my room
God thought that made a wonderful thing
Why are you going to swim in the water?
I listened many times.
40 I heard it for ten days, but there was no answer
There was a small forest where I had to look at the window.
I do not know, but I thought that people started there

Beyond Ours

Our person; our weapon
Our love; our hope
Our partner; our friend
Our home; our sanctity.
Our garden wall; our security.
Our family: our identity.
Our children; our future.
Our culture: our guideline.
Our religion; our belonging.
Our country; our pride

What is beyond this invisible wall around?
A world to know, understand and respect.
A choice;
the goldfish in a small glass aquarium, in the ocean
Or the fish in the vastness and depth of the ocean?

Start Jamming

The little girl loves rubbing me,
I love giving her kisses when we have tea.
She has this bowl of four new friends,
goldfish cannot go out to play even on weekends.

She spends way too much time with this bowl of water,
these four goldfish need to play with a sea otter.
Has she forgotten about me her kissing cat,
I even let her dress me up in a crazy polka dotted hat.
Today as I stare into the fish bowl,

I wondered if I could replace them with four pieces of coal.

Feeding the Grands

Yogurt smoothies, Cocoa Puffs,
Mac & cheese and chicken;
Mushrooms, couscous, turkey (sliced)
And lots of snacks for pickin’.

Cheetos, corn chips, Goldfish,
Peaches, olives and a plum;
Watermelon, cantaloupe
And still, there’s more to come…

Swiss cheese, pickles, Kit Kats
And some mini ice-cream cones;
Yummy corn still on the cob,
Organic milk for bones.

Sautéed broccoli and oh,
Some lemon poppy muffins,
All to fill the bellies
Crying out for constant stuffins’.

A weekend with the grandkids
Is exhausting but so sweet
Just as long as we supply the food
They really love to eat.

Letter To a Love

what do i ask of you?
not your life
not you breath
not your goldfish
not your shoes, dress, hair
not your understanding
not your lip stick smears
not your poems
not your voice
not your eyes ears nose
not your house
not your sun star moon
not your time
not your name, address, place of birth
not your pantyhose
not your tampons
not your perfume
not your smile frown eyebrows
not your bed
not your howling growling moaning
not your laughter
not your crying
not your whispers
not your secrets
not your hangovers
not your hands feet belly button
not your couch
not your touch
not your taste
what do i ask of you?
simply
your
presence

Love Hate Relationship

goldfish glitter
moonlight floats
read the letter
that he wrote

 in your room
where he is not
clutch the scarf
that he forgot

goldfish circles
moonlight dies
break the silence
with your sighs

  on the pillow
his cologne
reminds you that
you're all alone

  beat after beat you
watch the door
the handle turns
it's almost four

  you close your eyes
pretend to sleep
he'll pay for this
the rotten creep!
