Untimely Confidence

Wearing a baseball cap I strolled
into town beneath a summer's sky.
She looked this way - that brunette,
now I'm wearing a smile as well.
The leaves of the oak were faded green
while near the roots tiny flowers bloomed.
In her hand was one such flower.
Yellow? Red? I couldn't tell you.
The river underneath the bridge
was rushing fast over pebbles,
people came this way and that.
Two water droplets - we never met again.
