Two English Sonnets

When a Woman Loves A Man

She said,"Mama, how can I know true love
Instead of just another passing thing?"
Mama smiled, said,"That comes from up above!
God makes it clear when it's not just a fling.

"The sky will be bluer, bluer by far -
Birds wil sing as if they are happier
And you will be thrilled to be who you are,
Your walk and talk will both be snappier.

"He will look at you with love in his eyes,
And smile to know you will belong to him.
That is how you will know you have been wise,
And this is true love and not just a whim.

"As with all men, he will have to change some,
But you can do that and the changes will come!"

When a Man Loves A Woman

The boy said,"Daddy, can I really know
If it's love with my girl or somethin' else?"
The old man chuckled, "I can tell you so.
Are you trying to please her or yourself?"

"Love has two sides, practical and romance.
Look to the practical to know it's real,
The other stuff just proves that you can dance.
The practical things you can see, not just feel."

"They are toilet seats, pickup trucks, and boots.
Put down the first and shine the other two.
That goes against a man's instincts and roots,
And proves you're thinkin' of her and not you."

"So to know if it's love or just a treat
See what you do with the toilet seat!"
