Love Poem: Turn About's Fair Play

Turn About's Fair Play

I told you that I loved you dear.
I thought you felt the same.
You even said you'd marry me
and be proud to wear my name!

You took advantage of my trusting ways!
You played me for a fool!
You used me for your selfish gains!
You broke the Golden Rule!

My friends all tried to warn me,
but I thought that I knew best.
So I didn't listen; I paid no heed,
to that I will attest.

I kept trying to get over you.
Peace was hard to find.
I was confused about what to do.
I almost lost my mind!

I left myself wide open,
but that won't happen anymore.
I'm a whole lot wiser now,
that's why I'm walking out the door.

I'm letting you go - that's for sure!
You can't hurt me anymore.
You'll only be a memory,
just someone I knew before.

I hope you've learned a lesson
and see the error of your ways.
Next time, my dear, unless you change,
you'll be the one that pays!
