True Love

True Love
by Jason Williams

My heart is in such joyous pain.
It thunders in my chest so great.
But not from fear, from something else.
I have no need, yet debilitating want.

No expectations, no fear, no rules or limits;
I will set him free so he can come back to me.
This special thing is unconditional.
It is ours and we must keep it.

His needs are greater than mine.
To watch over him is a gift unto myself.
I love how we are the same.
I love how we are different.

Gifts. Words. Time. And Touch.
All the ways I share my heart;
Equally vital, equally given.
In equal measure received from him.

My heart is in such joyous pain.
Selfless and free, earned and deserved;
I give him my heart,
and he lifts it up with his own.
