True Honest Love

True Honest Love

You tell yourself so many lies
The truth becomes vague and unclear
So you don’t even understand
How these lies lead so easily to tears.

You lie awake each night
You toss and turn with despair
Listening for those familiar sounds
And wishing you didn’t care.

Of course you care and curse the thought
It’s the bane of your existence
The good memories outweigh the bad
And you curse the facts of no resistance

You wish and hope for those little sounds,
Like the turning of the key
Or the rustle of clothes tossed on the floor
Even knowing it can never be.

You pray for sleep and close your eyes
And the images begin to appear
Tossed about in your restless mind
Bringing more memories…stark and clear

There is hope that I can offer
But you will have to dig down deep
You have the power within yourself
To dry up those tears you weep.

Think very hard about you
And what you really desire
Tell yourself you are worth more
Than a temporary flame of fire.

Give thanks for all you have
Ask for peace from up above
And in time you will be ready…
For the flame of true honest love
