Three Photos
I stare at three photos that lay before me
Handsome images of a man, three distinct phases of life
And I am amazed at what I perceive
What stories these photos do tell of this man
Deep wells of piercing brown eyes
That shine with a slight hint of boyish mischief
Looking back at me
I see gradual transformation and my heart smiles
Where there was sadness torment ruled
Now joy and peace replace
Where there was hurt and pain
Self-esteem, relief now gain
Through the fire that once ravaged his life
The storms that have broken men more astute than he
Wearily he is walking out of the ashes and into his future
Where love and refreshment for his soul awaits
