Those Youthful Days of Discovery

My very first love was Janice Valentine Way back when I was in Grade One The year was 1941 two years into World War II Strangely, an exciting time for us guys We had heroes marching off to war Too young to understand what it was all about Seemed like a kind of a game of “us versus them” Unaware that real people were actually dying My head was in a whirl when someone told me Janice loves me and thinks I'm cute I could hardly contain myself Lost my appetite, couldn't sleep, blew my little mind But if I really stop and think about it My first serious crush was at the age of thirteen Strangely enough, couldn't eat or sleep then either Except instead of puppy love, this was REAL love My loins were screaming naughty things to me I had this strange new urge Let's just say, I was attracted to this lassie Except for what I thought was some lurid love making Never really amounted to anything more than groping Then at age fifteen I met HER!!! A very promiscuous young girlie Who took me to a place I'd never been before Her name was Mary but she surely was no saint The memory of those first encounters Are indelibly etched in my psyche They say you never forget that first incredible encounter In my case that is most assuredly true Oh to relive those youthful days of discovery! © Jack Ellison 2014
