Their passage down the years,

Their hopes and dreams and fears.
Think...how the cradle shifted,
Rocked throughout the decades' span,
Rocked by a love and wisdom,
Rocked by the love of man.
Think...of the wheels of guidance,
How they turn for all our sakes,
How they mentor our momentum,
How they navigate mistakes.
Think...of the weathered faces,
And the eyes that saw it all,
And the minds that thought the future,
And the voice of reason call.
Think...for a perfect instant,
What they gave and still can give,
What they signify in being,
What they did so we might live.
Think...of all their meaning,
Of this world beneath the sky,
Of the criminal intent
Of when we think...to pass them by.
Think...of gifts of knowledge,
Of freedom nurtured from the birth;
So do not think...to bury treasure
Nor underestimate it's worth.
