The Simple Child

Such a sc-ar-ab,
This pro-ver-ub,
Made to be seen,
A child not heard,
Watch a child at play,
Listen to what they say,

T’s the good book’s discern,
By which we learn,
The faith we say,
If mind doth sway,
In flesh we pay,
For what we say,

As time doth align,
Against the mind,
And it surely will,
As time fulfilled,
Better to leave mouth shut,
Even if burst a gut,
Better to be thought dumb,
As the lamb,
Than to open mouth,
Removing all doubt,

Out of the mouth of babes,
Grows perfect praise,
In wisdom’s ways,

Love’s power okays,
As wisdom pays,
In simple ways,
As simple child,
Grows out of wild,

Complexity of wilderness mind,
By simple child defined,
Doth not align,
Simple love’s kind,

For how can a machine, so complicated,
By power so simple, be operated,
God is simple power,
The complication in what he made,
Doth not swayed,
Simple power that made,

At the hub of every wheel,
Lain the power of will,
Love doth not spoil, nor spill,
A simple child at the wheel,
May we all clutch,
As such!!
