Love Poem: The Heart and the Soul

The Heart and the Soul

I carry a leather-bound journal full of letters and signatures
I hold in my hands - a piece of yellowed paper
It has the shape of your lips next to a X and O
The mouth that said my name ever so tenderly
They told me that love was the perfect voice
The one you hear when Midnight strikes
You can trust me with your secrets
I won't tell a soul - I promise you
Your teeth shine like a constellation
Your laugh echoes through the whole choir
Brings forth a new day - you tell me about your fears
I cherish the grains of sand that represent the seconds
You are the only person I know who can freeze time
The first time I noticed it was when we embraced
Stood still and I felt immortal
Your heartbeat is music to my ears
Eternal life is our reward
Seeking the right word is a task for a Poet
We never kissed because our lips were too dry
So when I saw the outline of your mouth next to promises
I treasured your name - the signature I read over and over
Your breath smells of peppermint
A couple tells us that we are made for each other
Hidden behind my mask - I want to hear you sing
The book of hymns written centuries ago
Your lips form a perfectly shaped heart
Leaving your love for all to see
I remember Time - he was an academic
Monotone was how he spoke
You gave me a lecture on how to sit up straight
You put your fingers through my hair
And told me "Sweetheart, I've got to go.."
Please let me know if this poem finds you in good health
If words were currency - I would have much wealth
Your lipstick is a pretty shade because it is natural
I love how you make time stand still
The power you have over me is incredible
I will always love you
