Love Poem: The Girl Inside

The Girl Inside

She has no like for that which is soft
Nor the like of romance's petal
But I am no living breathing rock
Nor am I a block of metal
I see the girl that hides inside
That hard encrusted shell
Her eyes are open wide
Staring into the depths of hell
I'm her knight in shining armour
The one she doesn't want
How can I let this life harm her
The one she doesn't want
My armour begins to weaken
Begins to buckle and bend
The bloody cuts they deepen
These wounds will never mend
To see her defences melt
At the touch of my hand
Destroying the damages dealt
This pain she cannot stand
A gentle tender caress
Held within an iron fist
Her soul a fragile mess
Held within an iron fist
I see the girl who waits inside
Defeated, crumpled and broken
From my eyes she cannot hide
By my touch her spirit is woken
I hold her gently as the night
With vigil I stand my ground
Her demons cower in fright
Her tears they make no sound
I see the girl within my arm
A shadow from a distant dream
Her eyes forgot the calm
A shadow from a distant dream
I see the girl I cannot protect
Fading from my iron grasp
Her touch I can barely detect
Fading from my iron grasp
I see
The girl inside
