Teardrops On An Open Flame

Bitter tears, sleepless nights,
You endured to ease my mind,
All these years without a sight,
A new love you had to find,
Your friendship rejected repeatedly
Anger inspired by my hand,
Jealousy was bleeding free
Too harrowing to understand

Elevated tones, harsh words,
Pushed at you from my pain,
Broken bonds, diction absurd
Until hate was directed at my name,
Sentences transformed to stones
Until apologies soon bounced off her,
Voicemails and dial tones
No chance to reconsider her offer

Same love, wedding rings,
News delivered by your voice,
Too late for changing things
You are elated by your choice,
Hindsight gained, love lost,
Succumbed to anger, paid the cost,
She hates me now, with me to blame
As I cry teardrops on an open flame
