Love Poem: Rapture

Rapture

My words on perfect wings begot,
With land beneath my feet forgot.
Heart rising forth and soaring high,
Surging weightless through the sky.
On land below my feet would tread,
Tangled and entwined with thread.
Your mighty pride to hold me down,
Break my will and seize my crown.
That when dawn’s breaking’s done,
So lays me helpless beneath the sun.
Earth’s motion gives me time to rue,
Decisions made with respect to you.
The insolence you may bring to bare,
Your cold defiance and denial of care.
Burns through me and turns to stone,
All the love that I have dared to own.
So forgive me now for choosing flight,
Over ground you swathed with blight.
I can release me high and set me free,
So then who are you to question me?
I of beg you to let this, my rapture be,
A safe hiding place for the heart of me.
