My Favorite Devonshire

Perhaps it is my favorite and perhaps not but it is a great poem
as are all of Carolyn's.
Carolyn has been my friend on these pages since
we discovered each other's poems.
I consider her one of the premium writers on Soup and certainly one of the
kindest and most helpful.
I enjoy the sentiment expressed so skllfully and understated in this and all of her works.

              Eternal Love
spring blossoms’ scents carry as we hold hands
young lovers with dreams of lasting passion
little attention is paid to the questions:
     will this love last?
will we always feel this ardor?

after marriage a new type of love is learned
wee faces, gifts from heaven, bring smiles
but questions become more clear
will we live to see them grow?
will we be able to provide for them?

unconditional is the nature of true love
partners who share life’s challenge brave the winter together
compromise is the key to harmony and answers are found

regardless of the pain encountered
affection sees us through the storms
passion changes forms, but true love lasts eternally
