My Eternal Valentine

As I lay here gazing at my lover's face
I have no desire to be in any other place
we grew up together as best friends in the same neighborhood
and despite our childhood spats the majority of our times together were good
and since the age of 10 he's always give me a card signed
my love for you is forever, will you be my valentine?

As I stand here at the altar looking at my fiancee's face
I know that I have been blessed with God unfailing grace
today is the day we finally become man and wife
and vow to love and respect each other for the rest of our lives
and this year he gave me a special card with which he wrote this line
my love for you is eternal, wife you are my valentine

As I sit here at the table I look across at my husband's face
and I know before this night is over I'll be in his loving embrace
together we raised a family of two girls and two boys
products of our shared love who give us such passionate joy
and be it hand-made or store bought the cards from the kids are signed
mommy, I love you and will you be my valentine?

as I rest on the sofa I dreamingly stare into space
I lovingly picture in my mind my husband's handsome face
three years ago he became ill and then suddenly passed away
but the love we had for each other is what gets me through every single day
and every year since without fail
I still get a card in the mail
I know it's from the kids but they put their father's name on the line
and sign it, my love for you will never die, my eternal valentine
