Just One Word Too Many

We had our differences
And on occasion, a tiff crops up
With just a word too many.
Angrily she looked at me steadily.
“I’m going to my mum. Don’t wait for me!”
She left slamming the door behind her.

I knew her too well.
It was enough to make me sick.
Would pleading forgiveness
be enough for her?
Would a bunch of perfumed roses
bring enough good humour?
A lunch out? Anything...
Just tell me. It would be enough.

The door opens and in she comes grinning.
“I bought you some pizza, my love.”
