Love Poem: Just a Friend

Just a Friend

Why am I always ‘just a friend’?
This is the question that bothers me most.
I know I am liked, as I’m there when I am needed,
But when all is ok, it’s as if I’m a ghost.

Here I am; your mate, your pal, your chum,
I will listen to your worries and give out sound advice.
A shoulder to cry on, when you’re feeling down,
Being the good ol’ BFF comes at a hefty price.

I’ll pick up the pieces as you spilt from your latest beau,
And I’ll cheer you up with a night out on the town.
I’ll take your mind off things and be there as your pal,
Yet I’m forever seen as just a loveable clown.

However, I crave stability, just like any other soul,
Dependable, funny and confident, yet fragile best describes me.
Even though I’m always ‘just a friend’, I long and deserved to be loved too,
A loser in love, a lonely shadow of who I want to be.
