It Wasn'T Long Ago

We had our first picnic just there that June
And laughed as hawks soared high and rabbits played
Our love was new and the future was soon
The darkness fell and we were young and stayed

'Twas a day as near to perfect as she
The sun, the smells, the breeze were just for us
I was in awe that she had chosen me
To choose the path for our love come what must

We stopped the world and smiled that it was so
Held each other close and talked of our love
Then the world turned, it wasn't long ago
And life moved on and changed the stars above

We found soon we had other seeds to sow
But that day in June wasn't long ago
