Love Poem: Into the Sunlight

Into the Sunlight

My eyes recoil from the light--
Too long sheltered by the night.
The darkness, although cold may be,
Permits the timid eye to see.
And I have seen a billion stars--
The Milky Way, the Moon and Mars.
What can I see when it is day?
One shining star, too far away.
While love, that favored mystery,
She lurks in darkness, cautiously.
And though I crave the warmth of day;
The gentle rinse of beam and ray,
I find myself consumed by night...
Still sheltered from the sun, and light.
