Love Poem: Interlude

Interlude

Here you walk beside me so
In the evening’s fading afterglow
With muted sunlight in your hair
And breathing in the perfumed air.
Our footsteps mingle with the sound
Of chirping crickets all around
And the stars, they gather in the sky –
I see their twinkle in your eye.
The night birds sing a soft goodnight
That echoes in the passing light,
But we pay no heed to their calls
As darkness on our footsteps falls.
I revel in this time with you
And, giddy, tell a joke or two.
I hear your laughter as a song
And pray this moment lingers long.
The moon above now guides our way
And lights the road with milky ray,
So we stroll in the sleeping land
Arm in arm and hand in hand.
