Inner Season

I've sat before this open window
as the leaves have changed with fall
It's getting colder, but inside
there is a warmth that fills the air
With each sight of him temperature rises
as I rest myself in this sweet haven
He leaves once more, doing what has to be done
yet, I keep his heart with me
It stays in the safety of my own depths
serving as the kindling that never runs out
He is the fire that keeps me warm,
the shelter from the cold winter arriving
The outer seasons may change,
but the inner season remains the same for always
