Love Poem: Inch By Inch

Inch By Inch

And love by its surrender
in its power play
may come to break its scaffold
from your heart

Inch by inch
and by love
they are picked apart
and then to the bare bones of love
reduced to silence
and seen by sufferance
all their weakness
and how it makes you strong
all those weaknesses your strength
depends upon

Somehow better
someway stronger
game play in the game for longer
and brow beaten by love
falls onto helplessness
only to cherish them
as they are bullied into powerlessness

But you have no foothold
in your permanence
the refugees of your belligerence
walk away with all your self control
and you the self righteous defendant
they are then the burglars of your soul

And love by its surrender
in its power play
may come to break its scaffold
from your heart
and in such strength you the pretender
by their weaknesses
have torn your world apart

Inch by inch
and by love
they are picked apart
