Love Poem: In the Corner

In the Corner

My Mom passes by this corner every single day,
a corner in her living room where it will stay,
out of the way but not out of her heart,
this brown easy chair for her not easy to part,

Flanking the chair on the wall above are some pictures,
of a teenaged Dad and when they became Mr. and Mrs.,
my Mom turns on her and my Dad's favorite country music,
this is what she does on one of her routine to do list,

While the music plays she dusts for some cobwebs,
taking good care of the chair which she gently tends,
briefly inspecting the family photos above on the wall,
she looks over her favorite one of them she likes to extol,

Tears well up in her eyes as she imagines him sitting there,
in his sweat pants and shirt remote control in his hand,
now memories of him is all that is left in her heart and mind,
his vacant chair with the pictures in the corner by the blinds.
