Love Poem: In My Garden

In My Garden

Well! Hello, friend! I’m begging your pardon!
Would you like to sit for a while?
And whatever you see, you are welcome to free,
There is sun tea; day’s forecast is likely a smile.

There are several raised beds in my garden,
I bought the best soil I could find,
And the sides are all built to a suitable height,
I can sit and not kneel when I've weeds on my mind.

And each box I keep sealed at the bottom,
Wire mesh helps to keep varmints out,
Keeping watch on the growth that I find in my flock
Brings a joy I’d compare to fly fishing for trout.

My best friends are so much like a garden,
You lift them, feel joy when they thrive,
Those you bless with your nurture, there's no better gift,
It's a wonderful way to help you feel alive.

Symbiosis is part of our nature,
A shame to put care on the shelf,
Those who honor God’s plan for creation I think,
Find that man serving God also services self.

It is good to stay focused on the basics,
Most pressing: the sun, water, shade,
But the nutrients needed for most life to grow
Are quite cheap when conserved by a gardener's spade.

Though there’s joy when I dig in the earth here,
I love to pull weeds out by hand,
It’s a kindness to critters whose home is this soil,
For we all are concerned for the health of our land!

Nature’s chemist, the Sun sparks reaction,
Effective though star’s far above,
Agreed Light IS “atomic,” and Science IS “cool!”
But for me, it seems clear that there’s only one “LOVE.”
