Love Poem: In Another Time

In Another Time

In another place
at another time
perhaps,
our worlds
may collide.

We would fall in love
and our lives would be
as we imagined our "us"
when we were teens
and thinking of where
we would wind up in life
and who that special person
not known yet
would be.

I would imagine
and contemplate
that you were my shining knight
that, on horse, took flight
to save me from
the ogre who grabbed me
and held me hostage
because he loved me
and chose me to be his.

You would imagine
and contemplate
that I was your damsel in distress
and I couldn't be saved unless
you took the reigns
galloped your horse
as fast as you could
and would save me
from my destiny.

You were truth and honor
I was the virgin of purity
together
we were a duo of honest,
brutal, constant, decency
a pair to be noticed and adored
not abhorred by the evil
who would steal our innocence
and kill our as-we-thought
undying love of each other.

Today, we are dead
our legacies, our love for each other
and the memories our children share
and the care that we designed for our family
are their precious heirlooms
to always hold dear
and near to the heart.
