If You Were Night

If you were night, you’d have no words, but the four winds would be your voice
If you were night, you’d hear gentle words whispered by lovers nestled in the darkness of your wings
If you were night, I’d sing you a song and the music would swell with a choir of crickets and bullfrogs
If you were night, would you still love me?
Would you walk among stars? Gently sway with the trees? Rest in the crook of old man moon’s cradle?
Would the owls and raccoons would frolic at your feet?
And the earth sleep at your command?
The flowers close with your touch,
The shadows fall from your hands,
The stars find their way by your guiding hand?
If you were night
I’d still love you.
