I Only Live To Love You

It seems we are at an impasse
That no matter what it has always been you-
And despite my futile affray it always will be

I don’t want to simply be in the background to you-
I want you to remember me dancing on your kitchen table-
And the way your arm felt around me while the band played to loud
But if all I could ever be to you is she and not her then I’ll take it

I’ll take all the times that I was the one you chose to call with tear filled eyes
And all the times my eyes were filled with tears because of you
I'll cherish the way you tell me you love me-
No matter the infinity for which you feel that way

Burned into my mind all the awkward double dates
The way you stared at me hopelessly and overstimulated
And I stared back-
While she stared at you staring at me
But you never really seemed to see them like you do me

No matter the title given to the space between us
I only live to love you
Because your more than just my sunshine or my rain
Or the object or all my desires or the bane of my existence
You have an unreleasable choke hold on me

And even if we never have that talk
Even if neither of us have the courage to say it out loud
You own my heart in a way that terrifies me
So I’ll go on down the trail you travel
And maybe one day you’ll admit you only live to love me too
