Love Poem: First Dance

First Dance

She danced to music
Only she could hear.
Bathed in the street lamp
Of a border town.
No one came near her
For the hour was late.
He pretended that
The dance was for him,
And for him alone.
Shadows were deep where
He stood by himself
With an aching heart.
Then the dancing stopped.
She turned and spoke
"My heart can feel yours
There in the shadow.
Come out. We shall dance.
My name is Marie."
Boldly he stepped forth,
And began to dance.
Never again did
He lurk in shadows.
Never again did
She dance all alone.
To truly live this
Life - first you must dance.
