Broken Vow

Didn't we say
for better or worse?
Didn't we say
until death do us part?

Or weren't you present
that day when
we promised each other
to be together forever?

And today you tell me
you're tired of being
a part of this whole
you want to split
this heart into two…

And for what?
If only I knew
your reasoning behind
wanting out...
Maybe I would grasp
what you're referring to…

Heaven knows if
there were signs
I would have been
the first one to acknowledge,
“Baby you're right
we are drifting apart”

But we're only starting out
maybe this is not your idea
of an ideal marriage
but dammit this is our marriage
It's not something
you abandon
not something you wake
up one morning and decide it is wrong…

It's like saying we're wrong,
what we have is wrong
I will not let you walk out
without a fight
and leave this
broken vow behind,
more important
leave a broken me behind...

*this one stems from witnessing marriages falling apart, people have lost their fighting
spirit wrt being committed*
