Love Poem: Baby Steps

Baby Steps

With small, small steps
I’ve come to You, disheartened…
Listening to the hope, the joy
The peace that abides
When my heart hearkens Your grace
Promising me a love far more
Alive than any love I’ve ever known
Any love I’ve every recognized
As a love I could depend upon

With a gentle hand
You’ve touched my very soul…
Given me faith that I know
Is more wise than the stars,
The moon, the sunshine’s August hue,
More sure than I can grow on my own,
Without the seeds You planted
With serenity in dewy drizzling, light that smiles
Through the darkness that surrounds
Me when I feel doubts closing in, worries
From within, where I remember all my sins

With a soundless kiss, a whisper
You teach me the meaning of bliss,
Echoing beauty through the light,
Reaching beyond my fears and tears
Into the music of the most tender heart
Where there is assurance that despite
All the burdens, the heartaches, the yearnings
You are still alive and You have survived
Every doubt, every fear, every tear…
Because of You, I can face everything
With the hope of a peace that is eternally
With me, abiding inside me…

Because I believe… You are with me,
Forever silencing the doubts and fears,
Wiping away the dreaded tears,
Reminding me – through every sorrow
You are here and I can face tomorrow
Because I know You will see me through

In every storm, I know You will come
To silence the rain, the pain – the thunder
With Your light, Your love, Your wonders!
Because of YOU, I know gentle grace that assures
Me there is more beauty in the heart who believes
Than there is dread in the darkness that flees
When You come near, filling me with such sweet peace!
