Africa Rising

Home
How long will people die at the hands of mercenaries
How long will I be ridiculed on my own continent
How long will nature endure the harm being done to the land
There’s no place like home, no place like Africa.

Africa rising, what have we done..
Africa rising, the diminishing greens
Africa rising, the Mediterranean graveyard
Africa rising, the re-emerging militias .

A place of authorities with sardonic stance
Threat imposed, self enforced policies
Made popular by our docility and hypocrisy
Astute in their chicanery, less in patriotism.

Africa rising, bring back our girls
Africa rising, the politics of betrayal
Africa rising, the leadership with no Vision
Africa rising, the ignorance of the populace.

Too much wars and bloodshed
Too much imposed polices and trade deals
Too much division and discrimination
Too much poverty and misery.

Africa rising, fly me a kite; ground that warplane
Africa rising, the deception of free trade
Africa rising, the restrictions at the border post
Africa rising, been long coming rise above hate.

My soul rambles its rantings and desire
The untamed thoughts coalescing my reality
My hearts whispers its pain and anguish
From the sufferings and woes in these times.

Africa rising, the illusion of African unity
Africa rising, the curse of the black gold
Africa rising, the economic downturn
Africa rising, the puppet political elites.

It’s sad and I can fathom why!
So what happened to the ever enduring link between leadership and the common people ?
What happened to the iconic speeches?
Who quenched the flame of emancipation?

Africa rising, the status quo sucks
Africa rising, black lives matter
Africa rising, the killers of free speech
Africa rising, the cancer of corruption.

A continent like no other
A place of boundless diverse cultures
A land of endless possibilities
A region of change making young intellects.

Africa rising, wake up you sleepy dreamer
Africa rising, let the redemptive songs echo
Africa rising, let’s reclaim our glorious heritage
Africa rising, we are the marked ones

Let’s cut short the dreadful trend
Looting our nations and selling our pride
Unshackle our enslaved minds once more
The works of our liberators shouldn’t be in vain

Africa rising, champion change, catalyse action
Africa rising, cast away the traitors within
Africa rising, the future belongs to us
Africa rising, we are the marked ones.
