Advice From a Broken Heart

Lady Elayne was in love with John Kretue
And she whispered this softly to the mirror in her room
The face in the mirror watched pale Elayne’s face blush-
For that was the first time she had let her heart speak such,

Lady Elayne allowed her heart to speak
In the stillness of her room in a lonely tower’s peak
And her heart spoke and sang the word’s it had longed to say
But she quieted it sternly when night turned to day

Lady Elayne slid the mask on her face
Of a laugh and a smile and her indifferent grace
So to hide the truth form John as today
He was leaving for his home by the sea far away

Lady Elayne glided down the tower stair
And met John Kretue who had been waiting there
With mask clasped tightly she bid him farewell
For the Truth she felt was too dangerous to tell

So that day John and her joy rode off to the sea
And left Elayne in her garden longing eternally
Everyday she wakes with a sigh from her heart
For the truth would have saved her from these years apart

And she is writing this to you-oh fearful of heart
Share your love- for it may soon depart
And all the courage it takes to speak will be worth
The years not alone-as I, Elayne-have spent on this earth.
