Love Poem: Abandoned

Abandoned

I awoke one morning with nothing I knew.
How did this happen, what did I do?
Actions taken, different than words spoken.
I stood alone, my spirit broken.

I stood alone in an empty space:
The truth was flowing down my face.
The only thought I could conjure was, why?
When the answers came, I continued to cry.

I thought of a list of your favorite things;
People, places, the songs that she sings.
I searched for my name, it did not exist.
My mind confused became shrouded by mist.

I remembered seeing an abandoned pet.
Looking around for what food it could get.
Moaning and wailing, left all alone,
Searching the houses for a loving, new home.

I remembered needing  some attention from you;
But you were too busy to pick up the cue.
Time after time, lonely and unwanted I sat.
I may feel abandoned, but it’s better than that.
