Why embarass yourself?

You're not doing a stellar job
distracting me with idle chatter.

Life is not something to be ignored
and swept under a mat.
I've been living in limbo
no matter how you sugarcoat it.

Life is short and every beat matters.
Every day is another notch in the cog of time fleeting.
Life is a race to the finish line,
an obstacle course of sorts.

Ignoring the elephant in the room is
an embarassing act of cowardice.
Sometimes saying something-anything
is better than the insult of shameless pussyfooting.

No More Need To Sugarcoat

Loving the comfort and warmth of my long green winter coat.
Smoking what I am wishing would just be my last cigarette smoke.
Realizing I no longer have anything to sugarcoat.
