Pink Champagne and Satin Opera Gloves

As wild as unbridled seas,
soft as mist, a spindrift tease.
Night stars swoon and fall from skies;
constellations fill her eyes.
Every leaf stirs in her wake,
bottom to top, mountains quake.
Beaux like grapes bunch on her vine,
blood in veins she turns to wine.
Kisses sipped, her cherry lips.
Saké nip, rock ‘n roll hips;
tongue-and-groove celebration,
sensual saturation.
Her riptide lures sand from shore,
tsunami, when she wants more.

Two Roses

On our wedding he gave a crystal rose
Flowering forever, enrobed in glass
Ballerina's grace in delicate pose
Guardianship of tradition, of class

Witness of first years, of paper, cotton
Commitment held, her thorns learn to forgive
Pain polished away, stains dimmed, forgotten
Like love immortal, death she will outlive

Ten years on, he presented me her twin
Silvery spring caught; his honor, my gift
For old promises kept, new ones begin
He is still my rock amid rivers swift

Two roses, bloom in space the heart allows
Two roses, as eternal as our vows.

Loving the Child In Me

There is a child that looks like me.
Years from now still won't be free.
You'll want to rock her in your arms.
Keep her safe from all that harms.

Some things you simply don't forget.
And there is shame that haunts me yet.
The stark reality is this-
I find it hard to share a kiss.

Children are meant for love and prayers.
Not sneaking footsteps on the stairs.
Fear grows where refuge should be.
Hate floats on a toxic sea.

In all these years sorrow still lives.
A broken spirit but strong will gives
reason to find a better way.
This child is loved by me today.

Guess It's Over

Never thought it would be easy
After all these years
You’d leave me all alone
To face my lonely fears

Promised me the earth
When I became your bride
Said we were forever
Always side by side

I’m sitting here without you
You were my guiding light
Now you’ve turned your back on me
So I’ve given up without a fight

In time I’ll move on
Now you’ve let me go
One day I may find love again
When my broken heart gets strong

Would I take you back
If you came begging on bended knee
Guess I’m not so sure
I’m getting used to being free

I Would Take a Bullet

My love for you is true and has no bounds,
you are my friend, my life, you are my rock,
I adore your voice your melodic sounds,
even when you sneer and angrily mock,

when you need me I will always be there,
without you I would be nothing at all,
your the only one in my life I share,
when I'm in trouble your the one I call,

how or where we live has no consequence,
as long as we're together, we both care,
whether rich or poor makes no difference,
no one can take what we've got, we're a pair,

your hurting so am I, I will show it,
for you I will always take a bullet.

Tell Me a Sweet Lie

Tell me I'm the one, the love of your life.
It's not my fault you won't become my wife
I'll look in your eyes as I dream my dreams.
We can both pretend, it's not what it seems.

I know there's another who holds your heart.
I can't stand that it's ripping mine apart.
So I will take this, just one more night.
Hold me and rock me, till the morning light.

My pain is to great, please whisper sweet lies.
My brain knows what my Heart can't realize.
I'll give you freedom, please let me pretend.
I am not ready, for this love to end.

Tomorrow walk away, that is your chance
I will survive, if you give me one glance

Pondering the Season

To walk along a high mountain rock road
Gaze down on a patchwork of green and gold
With ribbons like glue on a mosaic vase,
A misty fall rain upon your wan face.

I know it’s a herald of change of seasons,
And I ponder and wonder the reasons,
While your eyes on the future enrapt you,
One more season, one more, let me love you.

We’ve lived and loved and grown old together,
Have withstood all of life's stormy weathers,
Still conscious are we of the mystery,
Of God's love everlasting gift to be.

Through one more season, let your dear smile glow.
My heart willing it - will make it be so.

If Love Does Not Live (Sonnet For Celene Crescent)

If love does not live so that love may live,
Wrecked on rugged rock like a pirate ship;
Tiresias speaks to hearts—no love to give,
Darkness and void with no inspired lips;

If love is quashed short of its golden prime,
Like dinosaurs smashed by a meteorite;
Crushed from its age of blossoming on time,
Like breath strangled from life not to unite!

Then O’ love, send me Pegasus to ride,
Spread your wings—lift us to Zeus in the sky;
Touching constellations with them abide,
Creating cherished crescendos for weepy eye:

Lightning life beaming love from golden clouds
Descending passion upon earth erasing shrouds!

Tribute To 'Navaho Madonna'

Wild horses, prairies, desert canyons,
Native Indians, brush landscapes
by 'Dean of Western Painters'
known as Olaf Wieghorst.
His contrast boldness,
softened with light
blended hues,
stirred my
heart.

Inspired to capture his moving art,
passion pushed to reproduce his
famed Navaho masterpiece;
every brushstroke chosen
to grasp his canyon,
mother and child
on stone bluff
framed by
rock.

Remember

When the world is bitter and cruel
remember my love i will comfort you.
When your heart is broken and lost
remember my love i will find you no matter what the cost.
When you have lost the will to go on
remember my love i will be the rock you can stand upon.
When the worries of your heart become too much to bare
remember my love i will always be there.
with hope in hand and i will always love you no matter the cost
remember my love you will never be lost.

Hold Fast My Heart

He baptized my heart with Holy water,
   Rivers pure and clean.
He has set my feet upon the rock,
With a measure of faith in things unseen.

Like the hands of moses lifted high,
I will call upon him, he will hear my cry.
If I should stumble, he will break the fall,
his arms are stretched to reach us all.

I love you Jesus from my heart,
 because you loved me first.
You meet my every need,
 and quench my every thirst!

Hold fast my heart to the one
who gave his life for me,
Rejoice because he has loosed the chains,
 and set this captive free!

A Poem For Jan

There was a hot poet called Jan
Who one day developed a plan
By hook or by crook
She’d write a kid’s book
And a lizard love story began

A lizard meets a pretty girl
Their tongues in unison unfurl
On a mossy rock
Their lives interlock
Together in love they now curl

The Sun Will Shine On Your Face

Suspended improbably on shoulders
Hunched by years of glacial attrition
And threaded through a forest of boulders:
The path that holds the key to my mission
I speak allegorically, because
This tortured path has ne’er been seen before
And every rock is a problem that was
And every chasm is an open sore
Each footstep will demand its pound of pain
The raven keeps score of the promises
But I will endure until I unchain
The bright drops from the dark cloud’s surfaces

And refract the light from the Sun, to send
To the Heart of Gold at the Rainbow’s end ~

Volcano

D~ormant this volcano was; a rock face,
E~ver cynical and mute, gaunt and cold
S~now covers the peak and the hollow place
I~nside a burning heart is kept on hold.
R~esistance fails; love like lava's trace
E~ruptions of emotion, rare as gold.

Autumn-Brown

They call this condition, September blind.
Secret eyes peek from silky autumn-brown.
On lifting wisps of wind, her scent does find --
A head adorned with thorny, lovelorn crown.

In the warming wet; in our blissful smiles;
On banana-bikes; on mossy-rock shores --
Our union dropped by circumstantial trials
That divide one love into distant doors.

In space-time loops I will search forever --
And, once again, until that plain I find.
From nebulous clouds to Heaven's lever.
I sense her ... so near -- but, I cannot bind!

In-between two 'verses she lives and dies.
How does one cross those parallel skies?

Loyal Love

Oh furry fan, you leave an
indelible paw print upon my heart.
Your devotion, unmovable as a
mountain, is ever true.
You look at me with adoration
yet it is I who learn what
faithful love is.

Your rock of loyalty never wavers
amidst the shifting
sands of life.
As I pet your fur with utter joy
I would not trade this moment
for all the treasures on earth.

I Have Come Down From the Mountain

I have come down from the mountain
The mountain of my youthful days
I have stumbled along the rock strewn path
The path of life that leads downward toward my final days
The long journey has rendered me bruised and battered
But I have found a trove of treasure along the way
The love of my wife, my family, and my friends are the treasures
These are the treasures that I hold so dear each and every day

Grandma's Arms

I remember long ago when I was just a child
Climbing into Grandma’s arms and the way she smiled
She’d hold me close and rock me, kiss me on my head
When I’d fall asleep she’d gently put me in my bed

There was a coal stove in the kitchen used for cooking and for heat
When Grandpa picked blueberries, she’d bake us a special treat
For the little things in life, we would thank the Lord above
We had more than what we needed, we were enriched by love

While Grandma was doing wash, I would be playing on the floor
Sometimes we’d take a walk down to the grocery store
After supper she’d be tired and sit down in the rocking chair
I’d climb into Grandma’s arms. I was always happy there.

He Found His Love In Deep Water

he found his love in deep water

there she was a roasted beauty queen lying on the beach
he moved towards her, inch by inch and then he met her reach
she came out of her shell
and that broke the spell
perfect, she was a hermit too living on rock bottom's breach

Flirting With Someone's Wife

To uphold clean ethics you may strive,
But which unfeeling fool does not know
That stolen honey out-tastes that of your hive,
And that the grass is always greener over the fence?

Silver and golden rings do strongly bind
And vows of chastity nail heart to heart,
But the pulsations of newfound love
Rock and rewind things back to the start.

So return that honey-coated flirt with a flirt
And let the tides of destiny take their course;
Nothing ever happens by accident or some luck,
For it’s the hands of providence that gather and toss.

Feel the warmth of newfound love invade your heart
And, babe, return that sweet flirt with a sweeter flirt.

Beauty, Before Me

"Stay with me through the darkness
until we find another sunny day."

Dodge through the rain drops falling fast
jump puddles not worrying about getting wet
take my hand and my heart, come hold me close
embrace my imperfections and this life we have chose

Slip-slide down this path of resistance with me
being my rock when tiny pebbles roll free
help find my sun hiding when all seems lost
don't let me go under without one last gasp

Of the beauty, before me, that surrounds
cherished in precious seas of love found
golden flowers sway gentle in the breeze
carrying off splendor for us to forever see
