Signature of Life

Over the still pond
a leaning branch of Iris
Messenger of Love

sudden gentle breeze
flower kisses the water
whispering love talk

ripples in water
sending another message
signature of life

A Glimpse of Mamma

mamma held the whiskey bottle
in small yellow hands
with dirty/short nails
their polish peeling like hers.
jaded/hard eyes with fear in each iris
watched me with something akin to love
similar but more unsure.

Iris

I wish I could rip the meanness from your spine,
Rinse and let drip the pain from your eyes.
In your heart there is one small door still open.
Says it's for me and I'm yours forever.

Sugar

I would breathe you in
Like oxygen
Hyper with no ventilation ,
Asphyxiation
A mellow mush
Together dried
Crystallized and surprise!
A lightning bolt
Electric jolt for the

Lady of the Labyrinth

Rainbow omniscience
Blinding bliss
Kissing the iris
Vision of the prism

Versicolor mix created
Fixated on the electromagnetic spectrum
Divine strumming
Every atom humming
Phonetic reverberations
Arcane incantations
Salamander songs
Of long ago

Pyromantic pixies
Generative divinities
And the evolutionary imperative

I see before me with my eyes
A semblance of a sea swept shell
And Love indentured with a pearl
A heart shaped iris stares ahead

A True Rose

And the rain suddenly befell
and suddenly ceased to rain.
Under the iris, someone drew
a flower I will call rose again

sprouting amid the cement,
smooth as a passing cloud,
I believe on her sweet scent,
she waves shyly and proud.

I catch her with my fingers
She has me with her thorns.
Love grows and pain lingers,
Undaunted by future storms.
 ,
A rose, true rose never fades,
Dyed with Aurora’s shades.

I Am An Iris

I am an Iris

Sometimes sporting a fuzzy beard,
I hear wisdom say, “Do not shave.”
“It would come back thicker,” it warns.
To razors I’ll not be a slave.

Elusive is “promise in love,”
but my purple face is fearless.
Nurturing true love takes effort;
to snapdragons I am earless.

Faith has shown I reap what I’ve sown.
Though Iris’s lifespan is short,
a bulb of hope roots in my heart
where butterflies are my escort.

*Iris means “wisdom and valor, faith, promise in love, hope”

Diamond's In Your Eyes

Gazing within the iris’s blue
Love gleams anew in facets so true
Gazing within the iris’s brown
Hope glimmers in facets where love abounds
Gazing within the iris’s green
Love flourishes in facets of merriment seen
Gazing within the iris’s hazel
Peace resounds in love’s faceted cradle
Gazing within the iris’s gold
Love explodes with joy for all to behold

So brilliant the cuts of each iris diamond
Animating love from their unique eye islands
Beyond iris’s color springs the spirit
A diamonds remnant, priceless, holds souls merit

    Title will be “Priceless Facets”

LEON, MY KING, HIS KING
IRIS, HIS QUEEN, HIS *****
I LOVE LEON
LEON IS MY KING
I WOULD DIE FOR HIM
HE WOULD KILL ME FROM WITHIN
I WOULDN'T DARE LOVE ANOTHER
LEON IS ALL I NEED
HE WOULD KILL ME SLOWLY
IF I LEFT FOR ANOTHER
I HAVE LEON THEREFORE
I HAVE LIFE
THANKS LEON FOR LOVING ME
NO THANKS FOR THIS LIFE

Fairy Iris, For Lauren

Delicate flower
reaching for the azure sky
you stand so alone.

You search for your truth
in the company you seek
from those around you.

Always surrounded,
yet always alone, lonely,
you keep to yourself.

Your fragile beauty
belies the pain in your heart,
and your need for love.

Pastel colors mask
your false insecurities
filling you with doubt.

Needlessly hurting,
the answer lies before you
yet your quest goes on.

White, gold, lavender,
what beauty could surpass you?
Deep green, Lauren's eyes.

Beyond Blue

For my Mother

We would nurture hands building pedestal.
What man nurtured women, matriarchal?

Procreation, Liberation, Choose one.
Some things we'll never fully understand.

Who made the moon as mirror for the sun?
The heart of men in darkness was outdone.

The blind man saw poison of jealousy.
Darkness and blinding light have set men free.

Love flowed like breath with fresh scent of iris.
The least shall be first, on love's endless list.

Pedestals and thrones of men were brought down.
We'll see beyond the blue if lost and found.

Mama once said, I must call on her God.
Silvery grey glistened like her quiet nod.

My Girlfriend the Virus

I once went out with a virus
She told me her name was Iris
Gave me a fever
Quite the deceiver
So I left with a bad sinus

Then she came back harder once more
This time she left me on the floor
Now in quarantine
She’s not very clean
Stuck with toilet paper galore

Feminine Beauty Flowering

Iris blue eyes that bright, azure beams strow
Lilly white neck with a radiant, translucent glow
Rosy cheeks blanching cotton swabs of milky snow
Viola black hair coiffed; silky strands strung in a tidy row
Magnolia-crescented bosom with a soft, silty furrow
Camellia-shaped paps that with sweet nectar flow
Butterfly Orchid legs; slender willows with tawny curves that billow
Anemone-cupped hands with graceful seams that her dignity doth sow

Sincere Beauty

She stands there with a
perpetual magnitude,
Vibrant as an orchid; tranquil
like a summer breeze.
With a gracious smile she
opened heaven gates.
My heart pounds with anxiety
as I gazed into her eyes.
Immensely captivating like dark
hooks for the soul.
Absorbed by her beauty, my
mind ponders in soliloquies.
Her iris blooms sincerity
I see my future in an instant
Tethered to faith, we become
one in the eyes of our God.

Riotous Defiance

The poison has been applied again,
the blade has cut deep,
Each branch is gnarled;
my leaves are few,

my thorns grow large,
my flowers small,
So what if I am the weed?
The uncultured peasant,

the bastard flower.
Do you blame me for
Cursing at the rose, or
Whining about the Iris,

Shadowing above the pansy?
Should I not push my roots deep?
Show my face to the sun ?
Am I not of god too?

Yet the gardeners hand holds
no compassion, his eyes give no love,
His speeches of plucking
And cultivating is not

for inspiring the culled.
So piss on the gardener!
I‘ll Shove my roots deeper,
and pray for more thorns.

Eternal Eye of Faith

Our eternal eye of faith
 is a celestial optic organ
 that views holy spectra
 having heavenly virtual vision

 Luminescent lights of love
 auroras of God's glory
 radiate and illuminate
 multiple majestic dimensions
not seen with man's mere intellect

 The pupil of divine faith
 sees beyond the mundane
Its lens of love opens hallowed
 avenues of virtuous vision

 This pious force of faith
 maneuvers massive changes
 repositioning material
 and incorporeal matter

 Without this esteemed
 internal iris of faith
 operative in our lives
it is impossible to please God

Seven Shades of Green

When I am this close,
I see that there are layers
in your eyes, seven shades
of green when the light
collides with and separates
the freckles of color within.
I see:
roads that lead to the sea,
to the edges of jungles and
a million scattered leaves,
ladybugs flying past your cornea,
and an iris that resembles a moonflower,
branches upon branches that extend
a lonely stretch of highway,
and landscapes never
traveled anymore, but
there are rivers that flow
southward into
solitary hearts
like mine
that beat the
brightest
shade of red
when held in
the vines
of your
embrace.

The Same Smile

The brevity of beauty
Is like an Iris blooming in spring
A grandmother holds the hand
Of her shy little granddaughter
They have the same smile
Love shines forever

Seventh Heaven

I plunged headfirst, my silly stilted pride

The instant I beheld your Cheshire smile

And dancing in a frame of summer blond

The gold-specked umber iris of your eyes

From first hellos until this breath I draw

Your heart has thrummed as if my very own

Despite the snares and distances ... of life.

~ 2nd Place ~ in the "Seven Lines Of Romantic Heaven" Poetry Contest, Silent One, Sponsor. The truly ironic thing is that I met my first true love on July 7, 1977, and the "luckiest" number for both of us was seven.

Forbidden

Mesmerized by a sight
Of an angel cloaked with sin, I was
Doomed to be consumed by whispers
Of a mind's fixated rasp
On a vision seducing
That metaphors, in exhaustion, in silence died
And was tattoed painless and quiescent
On the mind;
An addiction demoting the soul
From ashes to fire,
Drumming the heart a tune
Long ago forbidden.
Thirst quenched only, and only, when desire,
Iris to iris,
is reciprocated

—thus is this secret between Heaven and I.

A Lover's Vision

A mettle rusted, made with custom stale,
My talent’s sheen with circulation’s passed;
A faultless ace in one’s own face may fail,
So truth in beauty, beauty truth are cast.
A work upon a hundredth scan grows old,
And each successive glance does dim the gleam;
My words, gems precious wrought, are costly sold,
Once sharp, now blunt; my eyes false diamonds deem.
But in this view, I’m happily reminded
That through your pictured lens I’m tempered fresh;
Your iris heralds me to me unblinded,
A rainbow filter smelting steeling mesh.
This old sword’s new when in your gaze I’m eyed:
All else, say else; know not no naught they’ve lied.

Tenderness of An Iris

She smiles with the tenderness of an iris A wonderful blush of mauve and lavender There’s not anyone I’d rather see than this One who holds my heart and is my real lover Her appearance is just like a full flower She holds my stare and has some extreme power To hear her sigh is like music to my ears I will always hold her close for all our years

Aesthetic Warrior

Like an iris in soil
You brought me from deep under
As I rose with your nurture
I embraced the warmth of this mundane realm
Like a sword to a samurai
You clasped me in your affectionate grip
As you unsheathed me
Staining me with nature's blood
Forging me into a hardened warrior
One of winsome strength
My war would be fought on two fronts
One of love
The other euphoria

Asleep

Asleep You are, I sit and I wait, Your breath resembles T’ sound of ocean waves, Like petals of iris, shreds of cloudless sky, Your eyes' deepest blue makes me mesmerized, ‘Till my Lilly opens to the morning heat I will sit and wait, But you’re still Asleep

For My Firstborn

I loved you beyond the night
my heart stopped, ushering you forth

I loved you with every fiber of my being
leaving to be bread winner

I loved you with such closeness
you were fledgling beneath my arm pit

I, who loved you in pain and heartache
refused to give you up

Because I loved the way you stood
awakening life in me when I fell

I loved you, though I was green with youth
in my veins; the iris of mine eyes as small as my pupils
