Summer Love Sonnet

What's not to love about a summer day?
Kissed by the sun, the warmth of its embrace
To feel the cleanse from sweat at work and play
While honeysuckle breezes cool my face

With hillsides blanketed in purple vetch
Magenta morning glories and light blues
Imagine all the butterflies they fetch
A scene to romance any poet's muse

But when it gets too hot, I seek the shade
Barefoot in clover 'neath tall sycamores
Or take a watermelon down to wade
A spring fed creek, to cool, while I explore

That evening, in the swing, I watch fireflies
Then pray I wake to see one more sunrise

Beauty Can't Compete

Lingering rays of sunlight slowly die as scarlet burns the sky, where clouds ignite. And while the birds roost, bats begin to fly, capturing elusive moths in mid-flight. Luna hangs high in an ebony sky, spinning dreams into beams of golden light. And twinkling stars, like fireflies in the night, confetti the heavens, dazzling the eye. Like gold filigree, pinned to the darkness: galaxies adorn the heavens above, and shooting stars unzip the black of space. Yet, Man stands unabashed in His starkness, for Nature's beauty can't compete with love; an emotion intrinsic to His race.

Us

pulsating periwinkle stars dot the sky
under a lavender moon we make sweet love
on silk-soft sand two passionate lovers lie
as heavenly hosts serenade from above
all around us luminous fireflies fly
we take it in without either asking why
O the vastness and smallness of this warm night
we bask in the afterglow of love and light

A Bullfrog's Croak

Silent as smoke, darkness descends; as shadows merge and daylight ends. For summoned by a bullfrog's croak; darkness descends, silent as smoke. The Moon pools in ebony skies; gilded golden; She starts to rise. One of the night's brightest jewels; in ebony skies, the Moon pools. Blue bleeds red from a dying sun, a telltale sign that day is done. Inking crimson clouds overhead; from a dying sun, blue bleeds red. Signaling their love, fireflies flash; as dusk settles like sooty ash. Under the stars, twinkling above; fireflies flash, signaling their love.

Anticipation of Love

Fireflies danced amongst the shrubs,
Nocturnal fragrance filled the garden,
Sweet melodies of violin
Wafted into the serenity
Of our quiet neighbourhood.
How could I not dream of my love?

On the hammock beneath an old oak
I lay swinging gently to the tune,
A rhapsody weaving a magical spell.
Thoughts drifting into night's allure.

Will she come to me to count our stars?
Would she regale me with many a kiss
As passionate as each nebula
That adorned so heavenly our sky?
There the trill of the nightingale
Suddenly hushed as she approached.
I felt elated with the anticipation of love.

- What A Beautiful Morning -

~ A candle that burns with true love - is hard to extinguish ~
                                   quote by poet

The brief night with the sweetness of musk aroma
Wake up at dawn with a song of praise on rosy lips
A heavenly calm, gilded as never before
She can feel his breath and they have sworn an oath

Quiet as the fireflies, heart beats under the thin blouse
How pure and gorgeous, the sunlight envelops the earth
An impassioned sigh in the flush of innocence
Spectrum of love is unrestricted - it is far to the bottom in a well

Celeste Romance

I gaze at those fireflies in
your butter-sweet eyes that shine,
succulent with white lush pulp
of love's purity,

you hue my wildflower heart
with hyacinth, as we twirl
like spring-shaded tulips in
life's regal-black psalms;

mon cherie, I wish for stars
to sequin your shimmering
wine soul and cradle comets
of faith in your fate,

as, rubies glazed with honeyed
hibiscus and nectarine
daisies will be my pink muse,
forevermore true;

afterlife shall foretell our
lavender soliloquy
of celeste romance, whipped in
soft beige affection,

and your coral spirit will
eternally emphasise
cherry letters as tokens
of swan-shaped twin flames.

Breathless sighs of Poetry

"I want to see thirst In the syllables, touch fire In the sound; feel through the dark. For the scream." ~ Pablo Neruda
I taste the pulse of stars coursing through rhymes, stirring my moon-swept soul, as I ache for your soft blue sparks of poetry, breathless and lost in the musky heat of phrases etched beneath champagne skies, wrapped in threads of chiffon-laced heartbeats. And I think of you ~ the pearl warmth of dusk, for in your arms, I felt a wistful verse, glowing like fervent fireflies but if love could color the blush of secret sunsets, would you be the gold that binds me to Romeo’s silent sighs?

Soaking You In

Out back on that old tire swing drifting to and fro in the springtime dusk reliving childhood memories she swings and smiles free as the red breasted robin singing love songs as she soars from limb to limb in the that mighty oak tree her hair blows silently side to side dangling ever so softly off her olive basted silky smooth shoulders her caramel coloured eyes twinkle in the fading sunlight as the fireflies start to sparkle in the auburn sky I sit quietly drinking my freshly made ice cold lemonade soaking up all her splendor knowing I'll be holding her tight tonight

The God Seeds

The God Seeds

in the midnight summer solstice
out in air alive with fireflies
floats young lovers and their wishes
exciting moments hand and hand
hold the mind in solid silence
contemplating on the romance
to be shared in heat of passion
just a touch is hot attraction
till coming dawn all fresh with dew

with a sum of years, they ponder
deep within to nurture God seeds
of a rich devotion aging
from eye to eye and lips to heart
of the man and of the woman
imparting joy and love to keep
a constant growing in the soul
an empathy says someone cares
to walk together when their old

Night Sky

Goddess of love doth shine bright in the skies
As one planet blushes red among the stars
The moon, surrounded by twinkling fireflies
Looms ever so large to a distant Mars

Venus, adorned in her beautiful glow
Outshines Jupiter in the Milky Way
The dark realm of Pluto is too faint to show
But has five moons in orbital array

Diamonds in the sky show off their glisters
As my thoughts to the heavens take flight
A cluster of stars called the seven sisters
Twinkle brightly in an enchanted night

Myths of the night sky are never too far
I gaze in awe and wish upon a star

The Crescent Moon

Moonrise and showers
Enshrine flowers
A stroll along the shoreline

Starlight and halos
Eternal cosmos
The awakening angel

Lullabies and shadows
Mystifies meadows
The calypso personifies

Coral and fireflies
Rainbow skies
The radiant circle aglow

Butterflies and ladybugs
Intertwine jitterbugs
The dance along the skyline

Ataraxis

Tonight,
cicadas and crickets
are singing for us
the trees dance and sway
with their wind partner
a red sun listens behind her
sunset curtain
as your smile reflects
the last rays of twilight-
Your breath
brings the sweet summer breeze
to my neck
Your voice
like wind through
the grass
Your arms tangled with me
like winding roots
Your hand is a fortress
in mine-
And in this Eden,
the daisies and dandelions
blanket beneath you and I
A starless sheet
hangs over the world
but the fireflies around us
light our sky,
tonight.

Whispers

Shhhh...
There's a whisper
spoken in the breeze
awakening those who listen,
begging you please...
Can you hear it?

Love is the holy place
the potion to your woes,
the magic in the healing ,
where sanctity glows.
Can you feel it?

Hope is the lotus
emerging from the mud,
there's beauty in the suffering
and alchemy in the blood.
Can you see it?

Faith is the invisible force
powerful and uplifting.
Fireflies in daylight
above the creek are drifting.
Can you believe it?

Shhhh...
there's a whisper.

Fireflies

if you and i
were both fireflies
singing to the choir
light up the night
put us in a jar
by the bedside
naturally we'd be
a bright night light
you and i
would dance in time
to the flickering beat
of our tail lights
the glow serene
a wonderful sight
if you and i
were both fireflies

Black

Dream of love
All the colors
Absence of color
Black and white
Their beauty is absolute
Perfect harmony

What would the stars do
If the nights were not black
Streetlights would be lacking
Diamonds and fireflies
Need the black

A funeral passes by
Black cars and black hearses
Draped in fading flowers
The color of death
I think in black
Death should be
The color of sunset

My lover is black
She says
True love is or it ain't
Thin love is no love at all
To love and be loved
Is everything
It makes your soul
Climb out from its hiding place

Black is not sad
Bright colors depress me
They are empty
Black is poetic
It's how I imagine
The poet
Dressed in black...

Glow Worm

Velcro ripped and soda fizz
Velvet crushed Moroccan night
Nocturnal buterflies those flickering fireflies
Our winking spies like circling satelites
Coming together , we fissures of light
Delicious refrain we split like pomegranite
Love spinning round the sun and the planets
Mortally chiselled on tombstone of granite

Hark ! Who goes there this Luciferous night
Its only I with my faltering lantern
Dragging behind attached little light
Fallen firefly - slow creeping glow worm
Mid air flight hangs the hateful things we said
Farewell this, heres lookin' at you kid

As the Train Leaves the Station

She
rides the
slow slide of
her guitar blues
knife ‘gainst fretted strings of pain and pleasure

with hours to kill on train of love in vain
fields of fireflies
find their groove -
songstress
burns

A Poem For Pearl

May you fall, so you may rise
May your horizons surpass your skies
May your future fill your eyes
May you make mistakes that make you wise
May your laughs outnumber your cries
May you wear your beauty, undisguised
May you stumble, so you may sympathize
May love take you by surprise
May you catch the light of fireflies
May your dreams flower to full size
May you hear your song - and harmonize.

Spring

The finest day of spring
petals dance on sudden gales
counting every one
before the sinking sun
fly, fly little wings
like love that never fails.

Shadows begin to wake
to a chorus that is the night
crickets fiddle, slow
warblers whistle, low
shine, shine velvet moon
till last you fade from sight.

Hear the sea in song
where the swallows play and die
starlight in the haze
flicker fireflies, ablaze
stay, stay gentle dream
beneath the candles in the sky.

Love and Technology

The stars up yonder glitter in one accord
The fast moving clouds shaped like a blunt sword

The fireflies in the distance light up our meadow
Their lights cast sparingly on our corning glass window

Our mansion was carefully crafted and built
In the country side, it has this magnificent tilt

Made of expensive material and state-of-the art technology
It was a beauty to behold considering its unique topology

My wife lay on the third floor of an enchanting bedroom
Kissing and caressing sloppily her handsome groom

And voice-commanding the lights to give us some privacy
As we gradually climbed to technological ecstasy

Influence of the Moon

Your
allure
draws
the tide
to the shore.

Ripples
sigh
secrets
of the sea;

lyrical love
sweeps and seeps..

as stars
like
fireflies
wow the skies,

a moon-
beam
gilds the
waves.

When Love Was You

When memories fade, like luminous fireflies
and days become another red thread,
on horizons
When hope is nothing more than a wish,
held in the heart as a reminder,
when love was you
and I was a warm shadow to its light
To what end, do you haunt me so?
Is it desire?
To once again feel my feet endlessly float
Is it passion's yearning?
Caused by your mouth's kisses
Is it warmth from your hands?
As they held tight in conformation
Yes, I've kept your memory close
A jeweled reflection,
of a passing star, leaving a fiery trail
through the night sky,
disappearing into the darkness
Leaving only a silent wish
and a sense of awe

Songbird

Dear little songbird,
With your beak of gold;
Wearing untidy feathers,
Sing a song sweetly told.
The wings of my songbird,
Seek blue fields above;
Where my feathered songster,
Serenades his love.
With wings opened wide,
He soars in the skies;
His darting and swooping,
Gives delight to my eyes.
He sings in the twilight,
Where my soul comes to be;
Joining the fireflies,
High up in the tree.
Dear little songbird,
Sing your hymn in the blue;
For I have no wings,
To fly with you.
