Freer Verse

How free can free verse be
if effervescence is mandatory?
Its bubble’s bound to burst
with disquietude and thirst.
Perpetual hunger makes it worse!
I mean no disrespect
but fervidness is vehemence,
so loses some effect.
If amorousness is forced
it’s the coarsest kind of course,
like required veneration
prone in abnegation.
Reverence must be free
to bow or bend a knee
like words of love in lines
that slant or fall in rhyme.
