Yesteryears

On this dark eventide, tonight
the thrum of crickets chirping songs,
and the feral howling of wolves
have crimped any romantic thoughts-

until the pearlescent, silver moon
laid sparkling threads upon the lake
          that shimmers alongside the plumb,
overgrown and abandoned beach-

arousing that exquisite tang,
     awakened from our yesteryears
when, while waiting for your return-
our moon stoked fires for us each night.
