Without Red Paper and Candy

He doesn't bring her flowers,
Nor say much on Valentine's day,
For he was flipping a house to sell and
Give her her dream home one day.

Grubby and dirty he kissed her,
Curled up on the couch with a book,
She, with the cats, lie on his shoulder,
In comfort, in quiet peace, just looked.

"Will you be my Valentine", she whispered,
And he lay down the story he was reading.
"I have been your Valentine since the first moment I saw you,
And you are mine without red paper and candy."
