Within the Shadow
Within the shadow of a broken heart
a lover’s favor slowly does depart
slipping slyly into coldness stark
lost with promises in misty dark.
Within the shadow of a broken dream
the sleeper breaks into a horrid scream
with knowing that the lover’s left the scene
and one is all alone again it seems.
Within the shadow of a broken hope
you reach for visions of a brighter scope
but in a bleakness gray you blindly grope.
For anything you ask, the answer’s “Nope.”
Within the shadow of a broken heart
a day of blessed healing will now start
as constant raindrops gently do impart
the victory of mind, so smart, so smart.
