Love Poem: Wily Lust

Wily Lust

Oh wily is the feverous lust!
That breaks the bond and rifts the trust,
That makes a person wish to stray,
And throw a life-long love away.
Desire molds the acts of men,
And steers them toward pursuit of sin,
It’s not of merely wealth I speak,
But unfaithful desires men seek.
The reasons often differ some,
One for sex, another, boredom,
But as of late, this is the trend,
I fear that this we cannot mend.
How I miss the days of old,
One heart to heart, one soul to soul,
But even then it still occurred,
Secrecy kept the sin covered.
And yet today it’s commonplace,
When once it was viewed with disgrace,
If reasons be that love has left,
Of passions you feel you’re bereft,
Detach the old before you roam,
Unless you wish a broken home.
What need have you for subterfuge?
When letting go can be refuge,
Then you’re free to do as you wish,
While sparing others the anguish.
Fall not into the trap lust sets,
Keep clear your mind and do not fret,
True love is meant to come in pairs,
Even if faithfulness is rare.
So lets us vow from this day hence,
To those we’ve hurt, make recompense,
And share our souls with only one,
This is how it’s meant to be done!
