While I Am Away
He whispered softly into his sweethearts ear,
don't worry about me, as he wiped her tears.
Two years in a land, barren, and bleak,
so far away, where bullets never sleep.
This was my choice, I enlisted to serve,
as he pulled her closer, while speaking these words.
I have a job, and this war needs me,
I have elected to help keep America free.
All I ask, is that you love me true,
while I am away, doing what soldiers do.
She knew in her heart, from that moment on,
he would be her husband , when he comes back home.
