Love Poem: When the Rains Ended

When the Rains Ended

When the Rains Ended

When the rains came,
you cocooned yourself
between my breasts,
into the branches of my heart,
feeding off my love,
drinking my life’s blood…
like a vampire,
growing stronger,
as I grew weaker.

When the rains ended,
you fluttered your
newly-grown wings
and swiftly flew away,
never looking back,
to perch on a rainbow
painted on cobalt blue sky…
just as black birds
foretold.
