When Everything Goes Wrong

Despair ripping at the already aching heart Leaves a feeling there is no reason to hope, Especially when sincere lovers are split apart With no reserves, seems impossible to cope. Torn asunder by unforeseen circumstances Differences which seemed at first not to matter Time slowly magnifies, and distance enhances, Causing a deep longing to fracture, then shatter. Despair settles in like an unwelcomed refrain To smooth the hurt, but then stays too long, Stealing every vestige of hope in the brain, Convincing the sufferer everything goes wrong. And, because all is wrong, the future is grim Until one cannot find a plausible reason to live, The brightest light will grow increasingly dim Soon there’ll be little left, and nothing to give. Only when one’s sense of purpose is restored, And the light of hope starts shining through Out of the despair, one will see a way toward Love, life, and raison d’etre can begin anew.
