When Death Comes
I want to believe that when I die,
my soul goes through a tunnel of light.
And rising in its spiral embrace,
angels will take away all my fears.
God's everlasting love will anoint
and sanctify my eternal soul.
And bathed in His grace and purity,
I'll be free of temptation and sin.
Exhalation will define death's touch
as it transports my immortal soul.
And instantly, I'll be in heaven,
assured of my immortality.
Cutting earthly ties; my spirit will
slip away from my earthly body.
And cradled in the arms of rapture,
I'll bask amidst the glory of God.
I'd like to believe all of that's true,
but unfortunately, I do not.
What I do believe is I'm mortal,
and when death comes, life merely blinks out.
