Love Poem: We Were Young

We Were Young

We were young – just kids,
Living the dream was so often said.
We held time in the palm of our hands,
Inspired by hope for moments unplanned,
Stirred to life by love that was our good friend.

We were kids, just children you see…
What we felt, what we believed,
That would become the reason that we agreed…
To live lives of joy, lives of grace and peace,
Lives inspired by the One who had saved us to be.

We were children, so young and free…
All we needed was the moment and we would be…
Like the wind, breathing promises to the trees,
Like the flowers, silencing the autumn showers,
Like the stars, glistening in the heavens.

We were young and free, so alive…
Just so happy to simply be – simply be,
Always loved, always cherished, always inspired…
Always full of a light that grace aroused,
Always full of the fight for peace and love.

We were so alive, with all the time in the world….
What could happen in a few dozen years?
Would we ever regret those fears?
Would we always hold back the tears?
Would God show us forever when darkness clears?

We had all the time in the world, didn’t we?
Forever was like a smile, forever moving me.
Always was like a breath, breathless and free.
Eternity was like a tear, sliding across a heart.
It would be only moments, and we would see…

Time wouldn’t last for you and me… time, you see…
Isn’t free, but it is time that gives us the chance to be,
The children God created us to be, children filled with love,
Children meant to leave hearts with hope and joy,
Children who God left a peace that can overcome every war!

Yes, my friend, we were young – but it did not last.
Now, as we are about to meet the Lord, shall we ask…
Where did all those moments go?
Or, shall we simply say – Thank You, Jesus, for making a way…
For our souls to enter heaven, where we shall forever stay!

Yes, thank You, Jesus, for saving me!
