We Were Seventeen

When we were seventeen there was a day
When all the little pieces seemed to fit
Life was easy being in love to stay
How hard could it be just to go and get

All the little pieces stayed for awhile
We swam in ponds and sun dried on the bank
That summer we still recall with a smile
It was perfect and we had God to thank

Then the world began to turn as it does
We found that we had other seeds to sow
Our love wasn't the same as it once was
And so we chose seperate paths to go

Then all the little pieces came apart
And we learned the vagaries of the heart
